The Association of Capital Markets Investors (AMEC) is a non-profit organization that aims the protection to the minority shareholders rights in listed companies. AMEC has 59 associates – fund managers that work independently or employed by financial institutions, foreign fund managers and open or closed pension funds, which invest in equities and fixed-income securities.
AMEC was created in June 2006, and her actions has been market by public displays of support to minority shareholders in cases of disputes in which controllers were found to be benefiting from practices that hurt smaller investors. These concrete initiatives resulted in the Discussion Forum promoted by its associates, in which measures that support the rights of minority shareholders are considered.
Vision
The development of the Capital Market implies the protection of the minority shareholders rights.
Mission
AMEC envisages to defend the rights of the Brazilian Capital Market Minority Investors, improving Corporate Governance and adding value to shareholders.
Values
- Independent approach – general themes, instead of particular interests of the association members;
- Board of Directors discussions are based on the recommendations issued by the internal Technical Commission; - Consensus approach- Board of Directors decisions taken by the majority of all members (qualified quorum). |
