On June 22nd, Amec – the Association of Capital Market Investors – held “The 2016 Shareholders’ Meetings Season – Lessons Learned” workshop. The event offered a completely new experience: companies, investors and the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) had the opportunity to address their difficulties and availabilities on an informal basis. “We noticed that some situations can be easily managed when the parties are able to share their expectations and needs with each other,” explains Amec CEO, Mauro Rodrigues da Cunha.
Pablo Renteria, CVM Director, closed the event with a very clear request: “As CVM is not present in the meetings, it’s important that both investors and companies continue to do what we have just done here, that is, to report what happens in shareholders’ meetings and the aspects that can be improved.”
In the first panel, investors who attended shareholders’ meetings in 2016 reported their experiences, main problems and potential solutions. Representatives of companies who participated in the event pointed out that interactions with their Investor Relations officers through the course of the year are welcomed and can avoid difficulties for the investors in the shareholders’ meetings.
In the second panel, some companies found out the hurdles foreigners face to vote through the distance voting process.
There was such a great interaction among the domestic capital market’s participants that even CVM Director, Pablo Renteria, answered to the questions made by the audience.
